Cooling It
When an engine impeller goes kaput, engine overheating can result, resulting in big headaches and bigger repair bills. You can locate the right PCM impeller here to avoid expensive, frustrating breakdowns on the water. Experts suggest changing impellers at the beginning of every season or every 100 to 200 hours.
Water pump and other belts can break as they age, so it pays to inspect yours regularly for signs of deterioration. It's also smart to carry a few spares on board to avoid a long wait for a tow home in the event of a broken belt.
Our big inventory of PCM replacement parts here includes many more products, from thermostats and gaskets to fuel pumps and starters. If you're not sure what's right for your boat, call us or email us for intelligent advice.

What oil should I use for a PCM engine?
PCM recommends SAE 15W-40 oil for ambient temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit and SAE 5W-30 oil for ambient temperatures below 50 degrees. You can find more about oil requirements in the PCM Operations Manual - we've linked to the 2010 edition, but this information is largely the same from year to year.
Note: If you are experiencing a mysterious power reduction in a MEFI 4 engine, see this PCM Service Update regarding the oil pressure switch.
Can I add ethanol-based fuel to a PCM engine?
Ethanol-blended fuel that is rated E10 or lower is acceptable for use in PCM engines. It is not recommended to use a fuel rated higher than E10 as this can cause engine damage. Any damage due to the use of E10 or higher fuel is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
