Malibu & Axis M-Series M5/M6 GEN2 5W-30 Oil Change Kit

This Malibu & Axis M-Series M5/M6 GEN2 Oil Change Service Kit is designed for applicable Malibu Monsoon M5 and M6 marine engines equipped with the second-generation cartridge-style oil filter.

Please Note: Malibu-branded 5W-30 Full Synthetic Engine Oil has been discontinued and is no longer manufactured or available from Malibu Boats. This service kit now includes Mobil 1 5W-30 Full Synthetic dexos engine oil along with the correct Hengst E1001H GEN2 cartridge oil filter.

Because Malibu M-Series oil specifications and filter requirements have changed over the years, it is important to verify your engine model, production date, and oil filter style before ordering.

GEN2 Oil Filter Fitment – May 2020 & Newer

The second-generation M-Series cartridge oil filter went into production approximately May 2020 and is used on applicable Malibu and Axis M5, M6, and LT4 marine engines produced from approximately May 2020 forward.

The GEN2 cartridge oil filter is approximately 4 inches tall.

Because engine production dates and boat model years do not always align exactly, we recommend inspecting your existing oil filter before ordering.

GEN1 vs. GEN2 Malibu M-Series Oil Filters

Malibu M-Series marine engines have used two different cartridge-style oil filters:

GEN1 Oil Filter

• Used approximately prior to May 2020
• Approximately 5.5 inches tall

GEN2 Oil Filter

• Used approximately May 2020 and newer
• Approximately 4 inches tall
• This is the oil filter included with this service kit

If your Malibu or Axis M5/M6 engine was built before May 2020, use the appropriate GEN1 M-Series Oil Service Kit.

IMPORTANT – M6Di 0W-40 Oil Specification Update

Select Malibu Monsoon M6Di engines are subject to an updated 0W-40 Full Synthetic engine oil specification.

For affected M6Di engines, the previous 5W-30 oil specification should no longer be used. These engines should be serviced with the specified 0W-40 Full Synthetic engine oil and the correct oil filter.

Based on the applicable engine production information, M6 engines manufactured between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024 may be affected by the updated 0W-40 oil requirement.

If you received an oil specification update or service bulletin notification from Malibu, follow the updated service requirements for your engine.

Malibu Monsoon LT4 Engines

This 5W-30 oil service kit is not intended for the supercharged Malibu Monsoon LT4 engine.

The Malibu Monsoon LT4 supercharged marine engine requires 0W-40 Full Synthetic dexos engine oil and the appropriate cartridge oil filter. Use the applicable Malibu LT4 0W-40 Oil Change Service Kit for LT4 applications.

Severe & Extreme Operating Conditions

Engines operated under severe conditions may require more frequent oil and filter changes. Severe-use conditions can include heavy ballast loads, extended idling, limited or infrequent use, operation at elevations above 5,000 feet, or commercial use.

Always follow the maintenance schedule and oil-change intervals specified in the owner's manual for your particular Malibu or Axis boat and engine.

Before ordering an M-Series oil service kit, inspect your existing cartridge oil filter and compare its size and configuration.

As a general reference:

• Approximately 5.5" tall = GEN1 / Pre-May 2020

• Approximately 4" tall = GEN2 / May 2020 and newer
