How to Check Transmission Fluid in ZF & BorgWarner Transmissions
- Bring the engine and transmission to normal operating temperature, approximately 160°F, and shut off the engine.
- Within 30 seconds of shutting down the engine, remove the transmission dipstick and wipe it clean.
- Reinsert the dipstick fully into the transmission without screwing it in.
- Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level.
- Add or remove transmission fluid as necessary until the level is within the proper operating range.
- Reinstall the dipstick and tighten securely.
